Cha Su-hyun, a late student of the Department of Biology Education at Daegu University who passed away due to a chronic illness and donated the money she earned from part-time jobs as scholarships for her juniors, will receive an honorary diploma.
On the 19th, Yonhap News reported, "Daegu University will hold an honorary diploma ceremony on the afternoon of the 20th at Seongsan Hall on the Gyeongsan Campus, presenting Su-hyun's honorary diploma to her father, Cha Min-su (55)."
Daegu University will also hold a scholarship award ceremony on the same day for the scholarship fund that Su-hyun donated to the university. The university plans to award scholarships totaling 6 million KRW (1 million KRW per person) to six juniors in the Department of Biology Education.
Earlier in June, Su-hyun passed away at a young age due to colorectal cancer but left the money she earned from part-time jobs as scholarships for juniors aspiring to become teachers. In response, the university engraved a memorial inscription on a bench on the campus where Su-hyun spent her school days and decided to honor her by presenting an honorary diploma this time.
Her father, Mr. Cha, said, "I am grateful to the professors, friends, and seniors and juniors in the department who helped my daughter Su-hyun throughout her school life, and I thank the university officials who took care to award the honorary diploma this time. Su-hyun was eagerly looking forward to her teaching practicum in her senior year, and although she ultimately could not fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher, I believe she would be very happy to see herself receiving the honorary diploma from heaven."
Park Soon-jin, president of Daegu University, also said, "Cha Su-hyun's passion and dedication, even while battling illness, have been a great example to other students. Although Cha Su-hyun is no longer with us, her dreams and passion will be remembered for a long time."
