Jeonbuk Office of Education: "Leave School Meal 'Twigim' to Robots"

On the 19th, Jeonju Manseong Middle School Demonstration Event Held
Protecting Health and Reducing Workload for Meal Service Workers

The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education (Superintendent Seo Geoseok) announced on the 19th that it has introduced a frying robot for school meals for the first time in the province at the dining hall of Jeonju Manseong Middle School.

According to the Jeonbuk Office of Education, the demonstration held at the Jeonju Manseong Middle School dining hall showcased the frying robot donated and installed by a related company.

The frying robot is optimized for schools with 500 to 1,000 meal recipients and was installed at this school after receiving donation intentions from schools in the Jeonju area and conducting consultations among stakeholders.

About 50 people, including Superintendent Seo Geoseok, Jeonju Education Director Kim Jeong-gi, representatives from the donating company, and union officials, attended the demonstration. They observed the frying process performed by the robot and tasted the food fried by the robot.

The frying robot works by placing ingredients in a container on a shelf, after which the robotic arm fries the food at the optimal cooking temperature. The precisely programmed cooking process ensures consistent taste and quality.

The robot is equipped with safety devices such as sensors that detect human approach and automatically stop operation. The frying robot is expected to protect the health of meal service workers and reduce their workload, as well as safeguard them from cooking fumes and high labor intensity that occur during large-scale meal preparation.

Cooking fumes refer to smoke or high concentrations of fine dust generated during the cooking process. They are emitted in large amounts when using high-temperature oil for frying or stir-frying dishes.

Superintendent Seo Geoseok said, "I am pleased to see a new meal service site where advanced technology and education meet through the frying robot demonstration," and added, "We will continue to actively improve the school meal environment for the health and safety of meal service workers."
