A man in his 60s who set himself on fire on the street after feeling despair following Chuseok ancestral rites has died.


According to the police on the 19th, on the 14th at 1 p.m., a man in his 60s, Mr. A, set himself on fire on the sidewalk at Yudong Intersection in Buk-gu, Gwangju, and died. Mr. A was immediately transported to the hospital after the incident but passed away around 11 p.m. on the same day during treatment. It was 10 hours after the incident occurred.


The police believe that Mr. A, who had been undergoing long-term cancer treatment, attempted self-immolation after feeling despair following a visit to ancestral graves with his family on that day. The police will investigate the exact circumstances of the incident based on witness statements and other evidence.
