Ministry of Justice Executes Senior Prosecutor Personnel Changes Effective on the 23rd

Kim Seok-woo, head of the Judicial Research and Training Institute (27th class of the Judicial Research Institute), has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Justice. He is the successor to former Deputy Minister Shim Woo-jung, who assumed the position of Prosecutor General on the 16th.


The Ministry of Justice announced on the 19th that it had carried out a personnel reshuffle of senior prosecutors effective on the 23rd. Lee Jin-dong, chief prosecutor of Daegu High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as the Deputy Prosecutor General. Shin Ja-yong, current Deputy Prosecutor General who assisted former Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok, was transferred to the relatively less prominent position of head of the Judicial Research and Training Institute.


Park Se-hyun, chief prosecutor of the Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, and Koo Seung-mo, deputy chief prosecutor of the Gwangju High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as head of the Anti-Corruption Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. Shin Bong-soo, chief prosecutor of the Gwangju High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as chief prosecutor of the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office, and Lim Seung-chul, deputy chief prosecutor of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office, was appointed as deputy chief prosecutor of the Gwangju High Prosecutors' Office. Yang Seok-jo, head of the Anti-Corruption Department at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, was assigned as chief prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office.


A Ministry of Justice official explained, "This personnel reshuffle aims to strengthen the Prosecutor General's command authority following the inauguration of the new Prosecutor General and to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of the chief prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office." He added, "Through the minimum necessary transfers (8 people), we sought to stabilize the prosecution organization."
