Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will meet former President Moon Jae-in in Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 19th.

Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for Gyeonggi Province, stated in a written briefing, "Governor Kim Dong-yeon will meet former President Moon Jae-in at the ‘6th Anniversary Ceremony of the September 19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration’ held today at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju."

Governor Kim is scheduled to deliver a congratulatory speech at the ceremony starting at 6 p.m. In addition to Governor Kim, Archbishop Kim Hee-jung, National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea (video congratulatory message), Cho Kuk, leader of the Innovation Party, and Wada Haruki, honorary professor at the University of Tokyo, will also give congratulatory speeches.

The September 19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration was adopted on September 19, 2018, at the third inter-Korean summit held at the Baekhwawon Guesthouse in Pyongyang by then-President Moon Jae-in and North Korean National Defense Commission Chairman Kim Jong-un. The declaration aimed to eliminate the risk of war on the Korean Peninsula, resolve hostile relations, increase inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation, and strengthen humanitarian cooperation.

It is regarded as having advanced inter-Korean relations to a new level and laid the groundwork for full-scale discussions on the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

This year’s event was organized by the ‘Korean Peninsula Peace Joint Project Promotion Committee.’ The committee includes ▲ Forum Sa-ui-jae (Permanent Representative Park Neung-hoo, former Minister of Health and Welfare) ▲ Roh Moo-hyun Foundation (Chairman Chung Sye-kyun, former Prime Minister) ▲ Korean Peninsula Peace Forum (Chairman Kim Yeon-chul, former Minister of Unification) ▲ and metropolitan local governments such as Gyeonggi, Jeonnam, and Gwangju.
