Global Lounge for International and Current Students at Bumin Campus
Learning and Cultural Exchange to Strengthen Global Competence of Students
Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) announced on the 19th that it has recently opened the 'Global Talent Center,' a dedicated space for strengthening future international capabilities, at its Bumin Campus.
The Global Talent Center serves as an innovative hub for learning and cultural exchange for international students, and as a space for current students to enhance their global competencies and broaden their multicultural awareness.
In the basement of the Global Talent Center, there is a large lecture hall for cultural classes and group education. The first floor has been created as a global lounge, serving as a resting area for international students and a venue for various international and cultural exchanges. From the third to the fifth floors, there are a total of 12 Korean language classrooms, while the second floor houses the administrative office for international exchange and an O2O-based international conference room.
The opening of the Global Talent Center at Dong-A University was driven by a significant increase in international students. Since the end of the pandemic, the university has focused on strengthening internationalization by enhancing cooperation with overseas partner institutions, conducting proactive recruitment activities such as local admission briefings, expanding undergraduate and graduate English tracks to provide customized curricula for international students, and attracting outstanding foreign talent through the expansion of the GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) program.
As a result, as of the first semester of this year, the number of international students has increased significantly to 1,845 from 50 countries. The university has also obtained the 'Certification for Internationalization Capacity in Education (undergraduate and language training courses)' for three consecutive cycles, striving not only for quantitative growth but also for improvement in the quality of education.
In particular, the number of Korean language trainees at Dong-A University reached 1,004 as of the public announcement on April 1, 2024, showing nearly a fivefold increase in just two years since the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the sixth largest scale among universities nationwide according to the same year's announcement.
Park Hyuntae, Director of the Office of International Affairs at Dong-A University, said, "We will actively support international exchange between domestic and international students centered around the Global Talent Center and provide education to strengthen multicultural competencies. We will do our utmost to help language trainees advance to degree programs at Dong-A University and to support outstanding international students in settling in the region and growing into global talents who contribute to the local community and industry."
Dong-A University has opened the future-oriented glocal talent development hub, the Global Talent Hall.
