WSI subsidiary Easy Medi Bot announced on the 19th that it has obtained venture company certification of the venture investment type from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS).
Venture company certification is a system in which the MSS selects companies that meet the requirements of the "Special Measures for the Promotion of Venture Businesses Act" among small and medium-sized enterprises with excellent technology and management innovation capabilities, and provides various government support benefits such as funding, investment, and taxation. The venture investment type is issued to companies that have been evaluated for technological innovation and business growth potential by qualified investment institutions and have successfully attracted a certain level of investment.
Easy Medi Bot received this certification after attracting a Series A investment of 2 billion KRW from Black Pearl Ace New Technology Investment Association No. 1 in July. Going forward, the company plans to acquire INNO-BIZ certification, New Excellent Technology (NET) certification, and innovative medical technology certification using uterine position control technology with robotic surgical devices. It will also accelerate efforts to obtain U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval and European safety certification (CE) to enter the global market.
WSI is preparing to commercialize the obstetrics and gynecology laparoscopic surgery assist robot 'U-Bot' through its subsidiary Easy Medi Bot. The goal is to obtain product approval from the Korea Food and Drug Administration within this year and launch the product in 2025. U-Bot improves surgical convenience and accuracy for medical staff by applying intuitive operation methods and ergonomic movements. Through this, it can contribute to alleviating medical workforce shortages and improving inefficient surgical environments.
A WSI official said, "Following the Series A investment attraction, we have been externally recognized for our differentiated surgical robot technology and growth potential through obtaining venture company certification." He added, "We will actively strengthen the competitiveness of the surgical robot business by acquiring certifications related to innovative companies and overseas exports, as well as by recruiting research and development (R&D) personnel."
Meanwhile, Easy Medi Bot obtained the international standard for quality management systems 'ISO 9001' certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in July. Subsequently, in August, it acquired a certificate of recognition for establishing a dedicated research and development department from the Korea Industrial Technology Association (KOITA), further enhancing its competitiveness in the surgical robot field.
