Jinseongjun: "Will Discuss Issues in Policy Meeting After Confirming Points in Debate"

Jin Seong-jun, the Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the morning of the 24th that the Policy Committee would hold an intra-party debate on the Financial Investment Income Tax (Fin-Invest Tax).

At the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 19th, Chair Jin stated, "After gathering opinions within the party, they are represented by proponents of implementation and proponents of postponement," adding, "Representatives from both the implementation and postponement camps will form teams and engage in mutual debates under strict debate rules." He continued, "Through this debate battle, we will highlight the issues, and based on these issues, the policy members' general meeting will decide the party's official stance."

The Democratic Party aims to hold the debate at 10:30 AM next Tuesday (the 24th) in the main building of the National Assembly. The topic will be "A Just and Happy Republic of Korea, How to Implement the Fin-Invest Tax." Floor spokesperson Noh Jong-myeon explained, "The debaters have not yet been finalized," adding, "The postponement team may also include opinions advocating for abolition. You can consider it broadly."

Within the Democratic Party leadership, there has been support for supplementing the Fin-Invest Tax introduction bill and implementing it in 2025. However, as more lawmakers strongly advocating for postponement have emerged, opinions within the party are divided. Kim Min-seok, a Supreme Council member, also announced that he would reveal his personal opinion on the Fin-Invest Tax on Facebook during the morning, fueling intense debate.
