Wins Capstone Design Grand Prize
Yeungjin College in Daegu (President Choi Jaeyoung) announced on the 19th that its newly established Department of Global Systems Convergence, launched this year with the ambitious goal of nurturing global talent, is already attracting significant attention.
Students from the Department of Global Systems Convergence recently won the grand prize at the "2024 Capstone Design Competition" hosted by the Yeungjin College LINC3.0 Project Group.

Capstone Design is an educational program designed to cultivate the ability to solve problems that may arise in industrial settings. Students form teams to plan, design, and create projects, gaining hands-on experience and practical skills throughout the entire process.
The reason this department is drawing attention is that its freshmen, after only completing their first semester, have already distinguished themselves by winning the grand prize.
The grand prize winners were students Kim Gyumin, Kim Minseok, Kim Seongsik, Kawai Satsuki, and Ooi Ayame. They formed the GLOBAL FRONTIER team and showcased their skills by developing an "Intelligent Parking Lot Management System" utilizing AI and IoT technologies.
Kim Gyumin explained, "The project started with the idea of solving the difficulty of finding empty spaces in large parking lots using artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies." Kim Minseok expressed his feelings about the award, saying, "I was happy to complete a system that allows users to quickly find parking spaces and reduce congestion, thereby improving safety, through a data-driven management app."
Kim Seongsik shared, "It was my first time participating in a competition, and I am very pleased to have won the grand prize. This project, which applied AI and IoT technologies, will be a great help for my future studies and career."
Ooi Ayame, an international student from Japan, said, "I decided to study abroad after hearing that Yeungjin College graduates are thriving in Japanese IT companies. I gained diverse experiences during my first semester, and this award was a big surprise." Kawai Satsuki added, "Although Capstone Design was an unfamiliar process, with the guidance of the professors, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of AI technology."
Meanwhile, Yeungjin College has reignited its overseas employment initiatives, which had slowed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and launched the "Department of Global Systems Convergence" this year as a special overseas employment track, aiming to reestablish itself as a global university.
This department aims to nurture experts in cutting-edge AI software fields and help them advance to countries such as Japan and the United States, enabling them to work on the global stage. The program is operating smoothly with a select group of 30 elite students.
In particular, the Department of Global Systems Convergence provides students with the "Early Admission Scholarship," which covers 50% of tuition fees until graduation, creating an environment where students can focus on their studies.
Department head Chung Youngcheol explained, "The world's top tech companies are making massive investments in artificial intelligence (AI). Our department trains top-class talent to excel in various fields where AI technology is applied. Overseas employment is attractive because there are many opportunities to enjoy excellent salaries and benefits at promising companies in countries such as the United States and Japan."
Meanwhile, Yeungjin College already ranks first nationwide for overseas employment, surpassing both two-year and four-year universities. According to the "2022 Higher Education Graduate Employment Statistics Survey" released by the Ministry of Education this year, 83 Yeungjin graduates in 2022 found employment at overseas companies, including those in Japan. In the past six years (2017-2022), a total of 632 graduates have entered global companies?576 in Japan, 45 in Australia, and others in China, the United States, New Zealand, Singapore, and more. These graduates are now working at world-renowned companies such as SoftBank, Rakuten, and Yahoo Japan.
