"Below Safety Standards"... Ministry of Environment Blocks Import of 69 Overseas Direct Purchase Products

The government announced on the 19th that out of 558 overseas direct purchase products investigated, 69 products failed to meet safety standards and were blocked from entering the country.

This investigation was conducted from April onwards on 558 products from overseas online distributors such as AliExpress and Temu. Among them, 143 were household chemical products like air fresheners and coatings, and 415 were metal accessories such as earrings and necklaces. Of these, 20 household chemical products and 49 metal accessories were found not to comply with safety standards.

The Ministry of Environment requested the Korea Customs Service to block the import of products that failed to meet safety standards during the investigation. They also requested overseas online distributors to stop sales, and the products are currently no longer being sold. The Ministry of Environment plans to continuously monitor whether these products are resold. Product names can be checked through Choroknuri or Consumer24.

Hwang Gye-young, Director of the Environmental Health Bureau at the Ministry of Environment, stated, “To protect public safety from overseas direct purchase products, we plan to conduct additional safety investigations on household chemical products and metal accessories by the end of this year and disclose the results.”
