Widus Pharmaceutical 2024 Chuseok Ssireum Tournament: Winners in Halla and Geumgang Divisions
Kim Muho and Jung Jongjin, athletes from the Uljugun Office Haetteumi Ssireum Team, both claimed champion titles in the Geumgang and Halla divisions at the 'Withus Pharmaceutical 2024 Folk Ssireum Samcheok Jangsa Ssireum Tournament' held in Goseong, Gyeongnam from June 12 to 18.
On June 17, Kim Muho dominated the Halla Jangsa (under 105kg) finals (best-of-five) without conceding a single round to any opponent, securing a sweeping victory.
Kim defeated Park Junseong (Gumi City Hall) 2-0 in the round of 16 and Park Jeongeui (MG Saemaeul Geumgo Ssireum Team) 2-0 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, he overpowered the strong favorite Park Mingyo (Yongin Special City Hall) 2-0 to advance to the championship match.
His opponent in the final was Kim Minwoo, who had made a dramatic comeback from the quarterfinals to reach the finals.
Kim Muho won the first round with a deulbaejigi technique and continued his momentum in the second round, toppling Kim Minwoo with an andari attack to lead 2-0.
In the third round, Kim Muho received a warning for attacking before the referee's signal but secured victory again with a deulbaejigi, achieving his fifth career Halla Jangsa title (22 Goesan Tournament, 22 Pyeongchang Tournament, 23 Chuseok Tournament, 24 Samcheok Tournament, 24 Chuseok Tournament) and his second consecutive Chuseok Tournament win.
Earlier, on June 16, Jung Jongjin (Uljugun Office) won the Geumgang Jangsa (under 90kg) finals (best-of-five) by defeating Noh Beomsu (Uljugun Office) 3-1, claiming the Geumgang division's top honor in this tournament.
Jung Jongjin overcame last year's Geumgang champion Lim Taehyuk (Suwon Special City Hall) 2-1 in the round of 16 and Shin Hyeonjun (Mungyeong City Hall) 2-0 in the quarterfinals. He then defeated Kim Gisu (Suwon Special City Hall) 2-0 in the semifinals to advance to the final.
In the final, Jung Jongjin faced his teammate Noh Beomsu for the title.
Jung Jongjin defended against an incoming attack and immediately won the first round with a japchaegi. In the second round, Noh Beomsu scored with a mil-eochigi, leaving the score tied at one round each.
Jung Jongjin took the third round with a mil-eochigi right from the start, and although he succeeded with an ankle pull in the fourth round, his foot stepped out of bounds and the round was replayed.
In the rematch, Jung Jongjin defeated Noh Beomsu with a japchaegi, earning his third career Geumgang Jangsa title (23 Ansan Tournament, 24 Yuseong Tournament, 24 Chuseok Tournament).
