Over 30 Falling Objects in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
On the afternoon of the 18th until nighttime, North Korea released about 160 trash balloons, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on the 19th that around 30 falling objects were confirmed in the northern Gyeonggi and Seoul areas.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the contents of the balloons were household waste such as paper, vinyl, and plastic bottles, and "analysis showed that there were no substances harmful to safety." They added, "Currently, there are no trash balloons identified in the air."
The balloons are approximately 2 to 3 meters in diameter and 3 to 4 meters in length, and the falling object bags hanging from the balloons contain several bundles. When they burst in the air, they separate into multiple small bags, so the number of falling objects does not necessarily match the number of balloons. North Korea has released trash balloons a total of 21 times, including this time, since May.
