Trump's "Leave Politics" Offensive... George Clooney Responds, "Let's Leave Together"

Hollywood star George Clooney (63) responded to former President Donald Trump's attack telling him to "stay out of politics" by saying, "If Trump leaves politics, I will do the same," drawing attention.

On the 17th (local time), Clooney appeared on the American late-night TV talk show 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'. There, he was asked about an article he contributed to the US daily The New York Times (NYT) in July, urging President Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel mentioned that after Clooney's NYT article, former President Trump posted on Truth Social claiming, "Clooney should leave politics and go back to television," and asked for Clooney's thoughts. Clooney replied, "If he does that (leaves politics), I will do the same."

Clooney also responded with a laugh when asked, "Have you ever thought that if former President Trump comes to power, he might use his power to retaliate?" saying, "I have thought about it, but I take comfort in the fact that he would target you (Jimmy Kimmel) first."

Earlier, Kimmel had publicly criticized Republican politicians during the live broadcast as the host of the Oscars in March. When former President Trump posted a critical message about him on Truth Social, Kimmel mocked, "Thank you, President Trump, for watching. I'm surprised you're still awake. Isn't it time to go to jail?"

On the previous day's broadcast, Kimmel joked again with Clooney, saying, "Since your (NYT article) had some effect, how about writing one asking him (former President Trump) to step down now?" When Kimmel said, "You actually changed the world. You had a huge impact on the presidential election," Clooney replied, "I don't think so," emphasizing, "The important thing is that it is very difficult to give up power, and President Biden has really done something special."

Earlier, when President Biden showed a disappointing performance at the first presidential candidate TV debate on June 27, which was called a 'disaster,' Clooney ignited public opinion for Biden's withdrawal from the Democratic presidential race by publishing an article titled "I love Joe Biden, but we need a new candidate" in the July 10 edition of the NYT.

Meanwhile, Clooney is one of the Hollywood heavyweights supporting the Democratic Party. He has been a strong supporter of President Biden and played a major role in fundraising, including leading a Biden presidential fundraising event held in Los Angeles (LA) last June, raising $28 million (about 37.5 billion KRW).
