Disposable cups separated... Yeongdeungpo-gu expands street trash bins at bus stops and more

42 Additional 'Street Trash Bins' with Disposable Cup-Only Collection Bins Installed at Bus Stops
Preventing Illegal Disposal of Disposable Cups Around Trash Bins, Improving Urban Aesthetics, and Promoting Proper Waste Separation Culture Expected

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it has expanded the installation of 42 “street trash bins” equipped with “disposable cup-only collection bins” for resource recycling and urban aesthetics.

The “street trash bins” with “disposable cup-only collection bins” were first introduced last year. They are characterized by a long cylindrical “disposable cup-only collection bin” attached next to the existing street trash bins. This allows a large number of disposable cups to be neatly stacked and disposed of, preventing scattered takeout disposable cups in the vicinity and contributing to the improvement of urban aesthetics.

In particular, as the number of disposable cups discarded on the streets increases, the “street trash bins” are playing their role effectively.

The newly added locations total 21 sites, where there is a large floating population but no trash bins, resulting in frequent illegal dumping. These are mainly bus stops, subway stations, and areas dense with restaurants.

As a result, people can easily dispose of takeout disposable cups while walking or just before boarding a bus. Additionally, the bins are color-coded to clearly distinguish between general trash bins and recycling bins, enhancing the convenience of separated disposal. A sticker showing the “Takeout Disposable Cup Disposal Method” is attached at the top of the entrance to guide proper separated disposal.

Furthermore, the district has designated personnel for thorough management of the street trash bins and regularly cleans the “disposable cup-only collection bins.” This is to prevent odors and insect infestations, creating a pleasant walking environment.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will continue to expand the replacement and installation of street trash bins to provide convenience to residents and create a clean urban environment. Like the street trash bins installed this time, we will carefully observe changes in residents’ needs and inconveniences to take another step toward making Yeongdeungpo a city where everyone wants to live, a young city.”
