President Yoon Suk-yeol visited the Army's 15th Division, a frontline unit in Gangwon Province, on the 17th, Chuseok holiday, to inspect the emergency medical system of the medical battalion and encourage the soldiers who are maintaining military readiness even during the holiday.

President Yoon personally decided to visit the 15th Division to encourage the troops stationed at the remote frontline unit during the Chuseok holiday, the Presidential Office spokesperson Jung Hye-jeon conveyed in a written briefing.

On that day, President Yoon first visited the medical battalion of the 15th Division, called the 'Victory Clinic.' Since its registration as a medical institution in May, it has opened its facilities to residents in medically underserved areas and provided medical services.

President Yoon received a report on the status of the Victory Clinic from Division Commander Kang Hyun-woo, greeted local residents of Hwacheon County and military families, and toured the dental, pediatric, ophthalmology, and emergency rooms.

Commander Kang explained, "A total of 69 personnel, including doctors and Korean medicine doctors, are working here. Until May, there were no pediatrics, ophthalmology, or emergency centers, so military families and local residents had to travel about an hour to Chuncheon. Since being registered as a medical institution, a total of 526 patients have visited and received treatment."

In response, President Yoon said, "When I visited the 5th Division at the end of last year, I heard about the difficulties faced by military families and local residents, which was regrettable. Therefore, the government actively promoted the registration of medical battalions of frontline divisions as medical institutions, and as a result, the Victory Clinic was reborn as a local medical institution by reinforcing essential equipment needed in the area."

Next, President Yoon moved to the 15th Division headquarters and received a report on military readiness from the division commander.

President Yoon said, "The 15th Division is an invincible victorious unit that annihilated the enemy's 7th Division in the Battle of Goseong area in Gangwon Province during the Korean War, a distinguished unit honored by former President Syngman Rhee. I feel reassured that the entire division is firmly prepared in accordance with its brilliant history and honor."

He especially ordered, "If the enemy provokes, we will respond immediately and overwhelmingly according to the principle of 'action first, report later,' completely crushing the enemy's will."

President Yoon also held a meeting with junior officers. He carefully asked each junior officer about any difficulties, how they receive training, and their motivation for joining the military, encouraging them as "born soldiers."

He asked a non-commissioned officer managing the soldiers' dining hall about what foods the MZ (Millennial + Generation Z) generation likes these days and whether popular foods among young people such as pizza and hamburgers are well provided. To a sergeant whose spouse also serves in the same unit, he said, "We plan to create many institutions that can provide medical benefits to military families and local residents in the future."

President Yoon provided the unit with 1,000 sets of songpyeon, a traditional rice cake, inscribed with "Thank you to all the soldiers of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces."

Sergeant Kim Nam-joon enlisted as an active-duty soldier in December last year and is currently serving in the 15th Division military band.

Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun, Hwacheon County Governor Choi Moon-soon, and Hwacheon County Health and Medical Center Director Lee Jae-sung accompanied President Yoon on his visit to the 15th Division. From the Presidential Office, National Security Office Director Shin Won-sik, Deputy Director In Sung-hwan, and Defense Secretary Choi Byung-ok attended.
