Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports Disabled Rehabilitation and Mental Health of Caregiving Families

'Health and Psychological Care Program' for People with Brain Lesions and Physical Disabilities and Their Families Runs Until November
Psychological, Exercise, and Health Programs Conducted to Prevent Secondary Disabilities and Depression, Enhance Physical Activity, and Improve Daily Living Skills

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) is launching the "Modumomyeong Hamkkehaeyeong" project, a "Health and Psychological Care Program," to promote the health of people with disabilities and improve the quality of life for their families.

People with disabilities face high risks of complications due to limited mobility and economic difficulties, which prevent them from receiving continuous treatment and health management. Additionally, many family members who bear the sole burden of caregiving experience depression and anxiety.

In response, the district is implementing the "Modumomyeong Hamkkehaeyeong" program, a "Health and Psychological Care Program" for people with disabilities and their families. The program supports rehabilitation for people with disabilities and provides opportunities for families to relieve everyday stress.

Held seven times from September to November, "Modumomyeong Hamkkehaeyeong" consists of psychological, exercise, and health programs that people with disabilities can participate in together with their families.

Through activities such as aromatherapy and art therapy that nurture psychological and emotional well-being, the program helps people with disabilities develop interpersonal communication skills, while also offering caregiving families opportunities for social participation.

Additionally, stretching and muscle exercises help overcome depression and improve daily living skills. After the program, exercise videos are provided so participants can continue simple physical activities at home. Health lectures by medical specialists are also conducted.

Furthermore, from September to November, the district operates a "Rehabilitation Exercise Class" for people with brain lesions and physical disabilities, held 10 times in total. This "customized rehabilitation exercise" includes stretching, strength training using bands, and aerobic exercises through games, aiming to enhance the physical and mental health of people with disabilities.

Each program is recruiting participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents wishing to apply can do so by phone through the Yeongdeungpo Public Health Center.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "We operate various customized programs tailored to the characteristics of disabilities to manage health and promote rehabilitation for people with disabilities. We will continue to do our best to create a 'Yeongdeungpo that walks with the vulnerable,' so that people with disabilities can enjoy healthy daily lives and happy living."
