Arson Charge for Hyeonju Building
A man in his 60s who set fire to an apartment after a marital dispute was sentenced to three years in prison.
According to the legal community on the 17th, the 1st Criminal Division of the Busan District Court Seobu Branch (Chief Judge Lee Jin-jae) sentenced Mr. A, in his 60s, who was charged with arson of a dwelling, to three years in prison.
Mr. A is accused of stacking paper at the entrance of the apartment where he lived with his wife and setting it on fire with a lighter in the early morning of June 28.
It was confirmed that he set the fire in a fit of anger after his wife, who had left the house following an argument, did not answer his calls.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "The crime took place in a multi-family housing unit, and if the fire had not been extinguished early, it could have caused significant casualties and property damage, so the culpability is not light," and added, "We considered the fact that he is reflecting on his crime and that he directly reported the fire after the incident."
