Netizens: "Should Have Used Skills to Defeat the Devil"
Woman: "Concerned About Serious Consequences After Hitting a Civilian"

A female mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete in China reported a man who attempted to forcibly molest her to the police, but instead faced criticism for not physically overpowering him despite being capable of doing so.

On the 16th, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on an incident involving female MMA athlete Xu (23) that occurred on the 3rd. She is a former national judo representative who retired four years ago and then entered mixed martial arts.

At the time, Xu was walking in the Jiangan area when she encountered a man named Zhou (23). He asked for her contact information and suddenly grabbed her neck, attempting to forcibly kiss her.

Fortunately, Xu escaped from him and, upon seeing that the man was holding a knife, immediately reported the incident to the police. Shanghai police detained the man on charges of forcible molestation.

However, after the incident became known, Xu was criticized online for not physically defeating the man herself.

Some netizens said things like, "In a situation where attacking him was justified, you didn't do it?does that mean you couldn't win the fight?" and "Why didn't you use your MMA training to defeat the devil?"

Xu said, "I am a professional MMA athlete, so I am much stronger than an ordinary person," but added, "I was afraid that if I hit him, it could lead to serious consequences."

She also said she thought that if the man was not caught, he would harm more women, adding, "I hope he is punished."

Meanwhile, some netizens praised her, saying, "You handled the situation appropriately," "Don't pay attention to people's criticism," and "We support you."

Xu said, "I do MMA not as a means of violence but to achieve my dreams," and urged, "Other women should also receive basic combat training so they can have the confidence to protect themselves."
