Photo and Video of Electronic Cigarettes Shared on X
Baekhyun of the group EXO apologized after controversy arose over an image of him seemingly smoking indoors.
On the 16th, photos and videos were shared on X (formerly Twitter) showing Baekhyun exhaling smoke from an electronic cigarette while talking with someone.
In response, his agency INB100 issued a statement confirming that Baekhyun did use an electronic cigarette indoors while having a meal with staff after his June performance in Macau, and apologized. The agency stated, "At the time, neither Baekhyun nor our staff were aware that electronic cigarettes were prohibited in Macau," adding, "During the meal with staff after the Macau performance, as the conversation deepened, he unconsciously used the electronic cigarette."
They continued, "Both the agency and Baekhyun deeply apologize for disappointing many fans due to his careless behavior," and promised, "We will be more cautious to ensure such incidents do not happen again and vow not to disappoint fans with situations like this."
Since 2018, indoor smoking has been banned in Macau, China. In particular, electronic cigarettes are prohibited from being brought into Macau upon entry.
Recently, indoor smoking has repeatedly become an issue in the music industry. D.O., another EXO member, was fined last September after being caught smoking indoors, and Jennie of the girl group BLACKPINK apologized after controversy arose when she was seen blowing electronic cigarette smoke onto a staff member’s face while getting her makeup done.
