The Department of eSports Industry at Honam University (Department Head Jeong Yeon-cheol) conducted a Valorant coaching and practical scrimmage experience over two days on the 13th and 14th as part of an eSports experience program.

The eSports experience was a detailed program within the ‘2024 Stay-type eSports Experience Tourism Program’ organized by Luna C&A Co., Ltd., a leading local tourism platform company. It targeted a total of 20 foreigners recruited domestically and internationally (15 from the Philippines, 5 from Russia), with the schedule consisting of eSports experience in the morning and local tourism in the afternoon.

The eSports coaching was conducted in the ‘Valorant’ category based on prior demand surveys. Students Park Jin-hyeok and Kim Min-jae (first-year) from the Department of eSports Industry participated as coaches. On the 13th, they focused on basic game mechanics through practice modes such as practice maps and aiming tests using training bots to learn in-game skills, and on the 14th, they operated team training and practical scrimmages with teams participating in groups.

Park Jin-hyeok, who participated as a coach, has player experience in Overwatch and Valorant from 2021 to 2023 and is currently active as a Valorant customized coach for local middle school students.

The Department of eSports Industry signed an agreement with Luna C&A Co., Ltd. in 2023 and is cooperating in developing regionally specialized eSports experience tourism products that link eSports and tourism. This program is the result of ongoing industry-academia cooperation efforts.

The Department of eSports Industry continues to promote the training of professional personnel who lead the growth of the eSports industry, discovery of core content, and industry-academia cooperation activities through the ‘eSports Professional Workforce Development Project’ supported by KOCCA.

Luna C&A Co., Ltd. was selected as a tourism venture company supported by the Korea Tourism Organization and is conducting activities to revitalize local tourism by utilizing local eSports infrastructure and creating new tourism products that combine eSports and the tourism industry, aiming to enhance the city image of Gwangju as an eSports-specialized city.
