Jeju Coast and South Coast Must Prepare for Low-Lying Area Flooding

On the 16th, the day before Chuseok, most regions nationwide will continue to experience hot weather with scattered showers expected in various areas.

Showers are forecast to fall in most regions between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with rain continuing into the evening in the Jeonbuk area.

The expected rainfall over two days from the 15th is 10-50mm in Gangwon Yeongdong, 30-80mm along the southern east coasts of Ulsan and Gyeongbuk. Busan, the southern coast of Gyeongnam, the northern east coast of Gyeongbuk, and Jeju Island are forecast to receive 20-60mm of rain.

On the 16th, the expected rainfall from showers is 5-40mm in inland Gyeonggi, southern Gangwon Yeongseo, and the Chungcheong region, and 5-60mm in the Jeolla and Gyeongsang regions.

Strong rain of 20-30mm per hour may fall in the Jeolla region and inland Gyeongnam, and other areas are also expected to see around 20mm per hour, so special caution is required to prevent safety accidents.

The morning low temperatures will range from 19 to 27 degrees Celsius, and the daytime highs will be between 26 and 35 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing a heat index of 33 to 35 degrees Celsius. Heatwave warnings are in effect mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungcheong region, southern provinces, and Jeju Island, and tropical nights may continue for a while, so attention to health management is necessary.

Fine dust levels are expected to be 'good' nationwide due to favorable atmospheric dispersion.

Sea waves are expected to be 0.5 to 3.0 meters in the East Sea nearshore, and 0.5 to 2.0 meters in the nearshore areas of the West Sea and South Sea. Offshore wave heights are forecast to reach 1.0 to 3.5 meters in the East Sea, 0.5 to 4.0 meters in the West Sea, and 1.0 to 4.0 meters in the South Sea.

Strong swells may enter the coastal areas of Jeju Island and the southern coast. Precautions should be taken against waves overtopping coastal roads and flooding in low-lying areas.

Storm warnings are currently in effect for the southern offshore West Sea, the East Sea, the western offshore South Sea, and the waters off Jeju Island, so it is advisable to check navigation information in advance when using maritime transportation.
