A daughter-in-law who was caught faking a cast to avoid household chores during the holidays has shared her story.

JTBC's 'Case Captain' revealed the story of a woman in her 40s, Ms. A, on the 14th. According to the story, Ms. A married after losing her parents somewhat early. Her mother-in-law said, "You have no family to visit during the holidays, so just come and do the work," and made her do all kinds of household chores. She had to take care of not only preparing holiday food but also cleaning the in-laws' refrigerator, doing the backlog of laundry, and cleaning the bathroom.

Then, five years ago, with the marriage of the younger brother-in-law, Ms. A gained a sister-in-law. After that, the mother-in-law began to openly discriminate against Ms. A. When Ms. A gave cash as a holiday gift, the mother-in-law said, "That's not sincere." When she gave a Korean beef set, the mother-in-law nitpicked, saying, "You're indulging in luxury with my son's money." Eventually, after much 고민, Ms. A decided to make handmade Hangwa (traditional Korean sweets) and prepared them with care as a gift. However, the mother-in-law again praised only the sister-in-law who brought a red ginseng set, saying, "Don't you know I have to manage my blood sugar?" After the holiday passed, Ms. A happened to see a photo of the handmade Hangwa she had given to her mother-in-law on her great-uncle's wife's social media profile. It turned out that the mother-in-law had pretended to have made it herself and had given the gift she received from Ms. A to her great-uncle's wife. Hurt by the mother-in-law's actions, Ms. A suggested to her husband, "Let's take a day off and hold a memorial service for my parents." When the mother-in-law learned of this through her granddaughter, she became furious, saying, "Why would my son hold someone else's memorial service?"

Then the holidays came around again. Ms. A thought that with a sister-in-law, the household chores would be shared, but the sister-in-law said she couldn't work because she had hurt her back. In the end, Ms. A had to do twice the work, including the sister-in-law's share, and suffered from muscle pain and eczema as aftereffects of the holiday. Thinking, "I wish I were hurt too," she searched for "holiday malingering" and bought a fake arm cast. She lied to her husband that she was injured and went to her in-laws wearing the fake arm cast. Finally, Ms. A, who had longed for freedom, was able to rest, but moisture built up inside the cast, causing itching. She went to the bathroom and took off the cast, but the door didn't close properly, and her mother-in-law caught her. The household erupted in chaos, and the mother-in-law shouted, "Get out of my house" and "Don't ever come back." Ms. A reported the story to 'Case Captain,' lamenting, "Is this really a mistake worthy of being kicked out?"

Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "She must have been desperate to even think of faking a cast," "I feel so sorry for Ms. A," and "The problem started with the mother-in-law disrespecting her daughter-in-law first."
