Opposition: "Government to Blame for Collapse of Ruling-Opposition-Parliament-Administration Consultative Body"
"Government Also Ruined Reconsideration of Medical School Quotas"
The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the government and ruling party, blaming them for the failure to launch the ruling-opposition-government consultation body. The consultation body was being promoted to resolve legislative conflicts before Chuseok, but the medical community announced that it could not participate.
No Jong-myeon, the floor spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing on the 14th, "The medical community announced that it cannot participate in the ruling-opposition-government consultation body," adding, "The reason for their non-participation is the government." He continued, "We will put more pressure on the government to create the minimum conditions acceptable to the medical community." No explained, "The opposition parties, civil society, and the medical community have demanded that the government acknowledge responsibility, the president apologize, dismiss those responsible, and reconsider the medical school quota from the beginning, urging the government to show sincerity by accepting at least some of these demands."
He also pointed out, "The Democratic Party tried to create an opportunity during the government questioning session to get the Prime Minister to acknowledge responsibility and apologize, but the Prime Minister was busy defending the president by shouting," calling it "as if they deliberately kicked the table away." No added, "The issue of reconsidering the medical school quota from the beginning was also ruined by the government itself," saying, "While trying to persuade the medical community, the Presidential Office leaked to the media that 'the 2025 quota adjustment is absolutely impossible.' This could only be done if they intended to break the process."
He raised the level of criticism, saying, "As the damage from the medical crisis continues and the 'Kim Geon-hee risk' snowballs, they only needed a tool to divert public attention and buy time."
No also continued to criticize the remarks made by Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, on the 13th regarding the possibility of adjusting the medical school quota in 2025. Choo said about the quota adjustment, "The opposition party should publicly ask students and parents. That would be something digestible." Referring to this, No said, "Do parents look like a 'shield against the medical crisis'?"
