The '2024 Jarasum Flower Festa,' established as the representative festival of Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won), opened on the 14th at Jarasum Namdo, welcoming visitors for a month-long event.
Held until October 13, the Jarasum Flower Festa is Gapyeong's flagship festival, selected as a Gyeonggi tourism festival for two consecutive years, and takes place twice annually in spring and autumn.
The Jarasum Flower Festa welcomes visitors with 16 types of autumn flowers such as zinnia, Korean chrysanthemum, pink muhly, pampas grass, dahlia, and sunflower spread over 86,534㎡ (about 26,200 pyeong) of Jarasum Namdo, along with a pumpkin tunnel made from gourds and various flower-themed sculptures and theme parks.
Under the theme "Healing and Happiness Blooming on the Bukhan River," the opening ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Governor Seo Tae-won, Kim Kyung-su, Chairman of the Gapyeong County Council, county council members, Lim Kwang-hyun, Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member, heads of institutions and organizations, and local residents, celebrating the festival.
Seo Taewon, County Governor (front row, sixth from the left), and other key officials are sitting on the stage taking a commemorative photo after the opening ceremony of the Gapyeong Jarasum Autumn Flower Festa held on the 14th. Following a pre-ceremony performance, the opening performance featured artists and key guests collaboratively completing a calligraphy piece conveying the message "Healing and Happiness Blooming on the Bukhan River." After the commemorative and congratulatory speeches, the popera group 'Poet' performed, creating an enjoyable stage.
Governor Seo Tae-won said, "This Jarasum Autumn Flower Festa was planned as a festival with rest, content, and economic vitality. We carefully cultivated the gardens and prepared various programs. I hope the citizens gathered here, heads of institutions and organizations, and tourism representatives become ambassadors for Gapyeong County so that this becomes Korea's best flower festival through our joint efforts."
Meanwhile, the festival venue opens from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with exit time at 9 p.m. Admission is free for Gapyeong residents and children under five. Visitors from outside the area pay an entrance fee of 7,000 KRW, of which 5,000 KRW is refunded as a 'Gapyeong Love Gift Certificate,' usable within the festival grounds for food and local agricultural products or in downtown areas such as Gapyeong Jatgoeul Market.
