On the first day of the Chuseok holiday, the 14th, a vehicle carrying a family of three slipped on a rainy road and fell 4 to 5 meters down, resulting in one death and two injuries.
According to the police and fire authorities on the 14th, at around 10:34 a.m., a vehicle driven by Mr. A slipped on the rainy road near Tapgok Intersection in Eumam-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungnam.
As a result of the accident, Mr. A's mother (female, in her 70s), who was in the vehicle, was transported to the hospital in cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away. Mr. A and his daughter were also seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the vehicle traveling on an elevated road from Seosan IC toward the city slipped on the rainy road and fell about 4 to 5 meters down to the intersection below. Photos of the accident scene showed the fallen vehicle severely crumpled and overturned.
It was reported that heavy rain fell in some parts of Seosan that day. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted strong rain of about 30mm per hour in the northern Chungnam coastal area that morning. The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident by interviewing witnesses and others.
