Gyeonggi-do to Host 'Gwangneung Forest Forum 2024' in Namyangju Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office building.

‘Gwangneung Forest Forum 2024,’ hosted by Gyeonggi Province, will be held on the 21st and 22nd at the lawn yard within the Graduate School of Peace and Welfare at Kyung Hee University, located in the Gwangneung Forest area of Namyangju City.

This forum, held for the second time this year, is an event organized for the sustainable development of Gwangneung Forest, which holds ecological and cultural conservation value. It consists of various citizen participation programs such as a nighttime forest music concert, climate crisis performances, and eco-friendly experience booths to encourage continuous local interest.

The keynote lecture will be delivered by ecologist Professor Choi Jaecheon on the topic “Forest and Climate Crisis: Asking through Ecology, Answering through Diversity.” A variety of lectures are also prepared as part of the sub-events (sub-stations), making it an experiential forum to understand Gwangneung Forest and discuss daily life and culture in harmony with nature.

On the 21st, the nighttime program “Starry Night Forest Music Concert” is a performance-type climate crisis music event that allows audience participation and requires prior registration. During the event, a special forest interpretation program for the previously closed forest trails of Gwangneung Forest on the 21st and 22nd is also available through prior registration.

The eco-friendly experience booths will be continuously operated with the participation of local organizations active in community development, featuring promotion, exhibitions, and hands-on booths. Various booths related to Gwangneung Forest will be set up, including a one-person environmental speaking platform that discusses the importance of the environment and practical environmental actions.

Seok Yonghwan, Director of the Forest and Greenery Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “Through this forum, I hope many people will take an interest in the ecology, culture, and sustainable development of Gwangneung Forest, and that it will be an opportunity to deepen understanding and actively participate in the Gwangneung Forest Biosphere Reserve in the future.”

The forum is open to everyone, and detailed event information can be found on the ‘Gwangneung Forest Forum’ Instagram page.
