'Hanbok Challenge' Planned by Professor Seokyeongdeok
Post Photos Wearing Hanbok on SNS
Professor Seokyeong Deok from Sungshin Women's University, who is dedicated to promoting Korean culture such as Hanbok worldwide, announced that he will hold a so-called 'Hanbok Challenge' on social networking services (SNS) during this Chuseok holiday.
The 'Hanbok Challenge' is an event where participants select and post various photos of Hanbok they wore, such as Hanbok from their childhood, Hanbok worn at weddings, or Hanbok worn during holidays, on their main SNS accounts.
Since the challenge aims to widely promote Hanbok around the world, participants post hashtags such as #Hanbok, #Korea, and #HanbokFromKorea along with their photos to introduce Hanbok as Korea's traditional clothing.
Professor Seokyeong Deok, who planned the challenge, stated, "Instead of only being angry about China's 'Hanbok Project,' I wanted to widely inform the world that Hanbok is Korea's traditional clothing through massive promotion by Korean netizens."
He added, "Active participation from overseas Koreans, including expatriates and international students, will be a great help in promoting Hanbok worldwide. I also hope many Hallyu stars and celebrities from various fields will join."
Earlier in February, Professor Seokyeong Deok strongly criticized Chinese e-commerce platforms such as AliExpress and Temu for selling Hanfu (漢服), traditional Chinese clothing, in their 'Chinese Hanbok' sections, calling it "an act of deceiving Korean consumers."
While this 'Hanbok Challenge' will be conducted using photos of people wearing Hanbok, he plans to launch a similar challenge next Lunar New Year using 'videos' of people wearing Hanbok.
Meanwhile, Professor Seokyeong Deok has also placed Hanbok advertisements in Times Square, New York City, USA. Additionally, he produces multilingual videos about the 'History of Hanbok' and continuously promotes Hanbok worldwide through YouTube and various SNS platforms.
