Jangan-eup, Gijang-gun Launches 'Kiosk Education' for Seniors to Bridge the Digital Divide

Shopping Using Kiosks and Self-Checkout Machines

The Jeonggwan-eup Administrative Welfare Center in Gijang-gun, Busan recently conducted the 'Senior Empowerment Program - Kiosk Education' as part of its social network formation support project.

The training was held twice, on the 2nd and 9th, with talent donations from the Busan Digital Learning Center.

The center provided education on using kiosks and self-checkout machines for seniors aged 65 and older who live alone and have difficulties using digital devices.

After theoretical education, participants practiced shopping using actual self-checkout counters, helping to bridge the digital gap between generations and boosting the confidence and emotional well-being of the seniors.

One senior who participated in the program said, "These days, it is often inconvenient to order at supermarkets or restaurants because of kiosks, but I gained confidence through this kiosk education."

Song Youngjong, head of Jeonggwan-eup, said, "I hope this training and practice will help with the use of digital devices in daily life," and promised to "promote various support measures to bridge the digital divide among local residents."
