A woman in her 30s who threatened a sex worker and extorted over 100 million won was sentenced to prison.
According to the legal community on the 15th, Judge Lee Chang-yeol of the Criminal Division 4 at Seoul Northern District Court sentenced A (30) to 1 year and 6 months in prison on charges of extortion. A is accused of impersonating another person and threatening victim B (23), who worked with her, by threatening to reveal her involvement in prostitution to extort money.
A sent threatening messages such as, "I filmed you entering a motel with a man. I have obtained your family's phone number, so if you don't want me to reveal that you are involved in prostitution, send 3 million won," frightening B. As a result, she extorted a total of 130.42 million won from B over 17 occasions from January to November 2022.
The court explained the sentencing, saying, "Not only did she commit the crime against a victim who relied on her, but she also impersonated another person and sent threatening messages. The nature of the crime, extorting over 130 million won from a frightened victim, is extremely serious, and the culpability is very heavy."
