Gyeonggi Province is strengthening livestock disease prevention and control activities to achieve the early eradication of African Swine Fever and Lumpy Skin Disease during the Chuseok holiday period.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Animal Hygiene Laboratory announced that it has designated the period from the 13th to the 19th of this month as the "Chuseok Holiday Special Quarantine Period" and will promote quarantine measures to block the spread of disaster-type livestock infectious diseases.
Earlier, on the 12th and 31st of last month, Lumpy Skin Disease occurred at a Hanwoo cattle farm in Anseong and a dairy cattle farm in Icheon, respectively, and on the 30th of the same month, African Swine Fever was detected at a pig farm in Gimpo. Emergency quarantine measures, including restrictions on farm movements due to the outbreak of livestock infectious diseases, are currently underway.
In particular, mosquitoes and biting midges, which are vectors of Lumpy Skin Disease, are active due to the heatwave, and wild boars infected with African Swine Fever continue to be captured in regions such as Gangwon and Gyeongbuk.
Additionally, with the increase in population movement due to ancestral rites, grass cutting, and visits to hometowns, the Animal Hygiene Laboratory of the province judges that special attention is needed to disinfect contamination sources and block transmission to prevent the recurrence and spread of livestock infectious diseases during the Chuseok holiday.
Accordingly, the Animal Hygiene Laboratory plans to promote thorough disinfection of livestock farms, livestock-related facilities, and vehicles before and after the Chuseok holiday through text messages and other means. Quarantine measures will also be strengthened, including maintaining movement restrictions on livestock farms in high-risk areas within the quarantine zone.
Shin Byungho, director of the provincial Animal Hygiene Laboratory, urged, "Please do your best to implement farm quarantine measures to prevent the occurrence of disaster-type livestock infectious diseases through visitors during the Chuseok holiday period."
