Pocheon Holds Highest Multicultural Generation Rate in Northern Gyeonggi at 2.8%
Systematic Customized Education Needed for Multicultural and Foreign Students
Baek Young-hyun, Mayor of Pocheon, visited the Seoul Office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the 11th and held an education-related meeting for Pocheon City with Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Kim Yong-tae, Member of the National Assembly. Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Young-hyun) announced on the 12th that it held an education-related meeting for Pocheon City on the 11th at the Seoul Office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, together with Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Kim Yong-tae, Member of the National Assembly.
On that day, Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon and Member of the National Assembly Kim Yong-tae emphasized the situation of Pocheon City, which has the highest proportion of multicultural households in northern Gyeonggi at 2.8%, and multicultural students accounting for 7% of the total student population, actively proposing the establishment of a public international school (multicultural alternative school) in Pocheon, which is transforming into a multicultural society.
A public international school is a school recognized under the "Elementary and Secondary Education Act," offering the advantage that multicultural and foreign students can receive systematic and customized education within the framework of public education.
Superintendent Lim Tae-hee said, "I agree on the need for systematic support measures for multicultural education amid the changes toward a multicultural society," and added, "We will actively promote the establishment of a public multicultural alternative school for multicultural students in northern Gyeonggi in Pocheon City."
Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, "We will create an educational city of Pocheon that resolves the educational difficulties faced by multicultural students and children of foreigners due to cultural and linguistic differences, and nurtures them as global talents by leveraging the strengths of children from multicultural families."
Meanwhile, Pocheon City plans to promote a plan linked to the designation of an education internationalization special zone, aiming to cultivate internationalized professionals.
