'36-week fetus abortion' performed by another hospital doctor... charged with murder

The police have identified the surgeon who performed an abortion on a 36-week fetus and have booked them on murder charges.

On the 12th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Criminal Mobile Unit announced that they have booked obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. A, who performed an abortion on a woman at 36 weeks of pregnancy, on murder charges. Initially, the police believed that hospital director Dr. B, based in the metropolitan area, had performed the abortion surgery, but it was revealed that another doctor actually conducted the procedure. Dr. A, an obstetrician-gynecologist affiliated with a different hospital than the one in question, admitted to performing the surgery during the police investigation.

The police also additionally booked broker Mr. C for violating medical laws after he posted abortion advertisements online and referred patients. Mr. C, who is not affiliated with any hospital, was found to have promoted advertisements on an internet blog suggesting that "even women at 36 weeks of pregnancy can receive abortion surgery." An acquaintance of a 20-year-old YouTuber who underwent the abortion saw the advertisement online and informed her about the possibility of the surgery, leading the woman to visit the hospital. It was also confirmed that Mr. C received a certain fee as a commission for referring the patient.

A police official stated, "A total of eight people, including the female YouTuber, the hospital director, the surgeon, the broker, and auxiliary medical staff, have been booked, and further investigations are ongoing. We are closely examining the conflicting statements among the involved parties. We plan to decide on detention and other measures based on the progress of the investigation."
