Yeongju City Selected for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Our Neighborhood Revitalization' Contest... Sangmang-dong Boreumgol District

12.3 Billion Won Invested in Establishing Shared Facilities and Improving the Environment

Yeongju City announced on the 12th that the Boreumgol district in Sangmang-dong (66,000 ㎥) has been finally selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "2024 Our Neighborhood Revitalization Contest Project."

The "Our Neighborhood Revitalization Project" is a program that supports the costs of installing public facilities closely related to daily life in declining residential areas, aiming to improve the poor residential environment of old downtown districts and invigorate the community by empowering local residents.

The city applied for the contest last April under the project name "Boreumgol Where the Moon of Coexistence Rises" after operating the Urban Regeneration Academy and conducting preliminary consulting with HUG (Housing and Urban Guarantee Corporation). After on-site and presentation evaluations in June, the project was finally selected.

Accordingly, a total of 12.3 billion KRW will be invested over four years until 2028 to carry out collective environmental improvement projects in deteriorated residential areas, including the construction of the Boreumdal Complex Coexistence Center, a community facility, support for home repairs, maintenance of old alleyways, and improvement of substandard residential environments.

Park Namseo, Mayor of Yeongju, said, "Boreumgol, the project site, has long suffered from residential deterioration and a lack of shared facilities," adding, "We expect this Sangmang-dong Our Neighborhood Revitalization Project to improve residents' quality of life and restore community vitality."

The name of this project embodies the intention to open a path of coexistence where happiness, like a full moon, fills the underdeveloped village and unites its residents through the urban regeneration priming project.
