Scheduled to Compete in Tournament to Qualify for Ryder Cup
Application Completed for Asiona Open Starting on 26th
Plans to Participate in Two More European Tour Events This Season
'LIV Golf's flagship star' Jon Rahm (Spain) is set to compete on the European stage.
According to foreign media including Reuters on the 11th (local time), "World No.1 male golfer Rahm has applied to participate in the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) Ashotona Open (total prize money $3.25 million), which opens on the 26th in Madrid, Spain. He plans to play in two more DP World Tour events this season." He has already won this tournament three times (2018, 2019, 2022).
Since this year, Rahm has been playing in LIV Golf, sponsored by Saudi Arabia, and has been suspended from participating in the PGA Tour. However, if Rahm competes in at least four DP World Tour events this season (including the Paris Olympics), he will gain the minimum eligibility to be selected as a European representative for the 2025 Ryder Cup against the United States. For this reason, he has chosen a strategy to accumulate selection points through DP World Tour participation or to be picked as a captain's pick.
Rahm led the European team to victory at the 2023 Ryder Cup with 2 wins and 2 draws. It has been confirmed that he must pay a fine to participate in the DP World Tour, but he has not paid it yet. Arriving in Chicago, USA, to participate in the LIV Golf event, Rahm said, "I have no reason to pay the fine. I am continuing discussions with the DP World Tour to resolve this issue."
