10MW-Class Domestic National Project Launched
Power Generation Possible Even in Low Wind Speeds in Korea
Doosan Enerbility is participating in a national project to strengthen the supply chain of Korea-type ultra-large wind power generation systems.
On the 12th, Doosan Enerbility announced that it has signed an agreement with power generation public enterprises such as Korea Offshore Wind Power, Korea East-West Power, Korea Southern Power, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and wind power specialized SMEs to promote the "National Project for Cost Reduction Technology Development of Korea-type Ultra-large Wind Power Generation System Supply Chain." This project is part of the second phase of new renewable energy R&D support projects announced by the Korea Energy Technology Evaluation Institute under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The participating companies will cooperate in developing 10MW-class wind turbines, expanding the localization rate of parts to 70% by next year, and conducting demonstrations linked to offshore wind public complexes after 2027. They are also considering participation in large-scale offshore wind farm development projects currently underway in Korea.
As the lead company, Doosan Enerbility will be responsible for the overall design, assembly, installation, and demonstration of the 10MW-class wind turbines, and will participate in parts reliability testing and the development of automation equipment. It plans to invest more than 50 billion KRW in R&D and factory expansion.
The 10MW-class wind turbine is a model tailored to Korea’s low wind speed environment, with a rotor diameter of 205m (blade length of 100m), capable of generating a utilization rate of over 30% even at an average wind speed of 6.5m/s.
This project is significant in connecting the domestic supply chain from parts and wind turbines to offshore wind public complexes. It aims to reduce the cost of wind turbines and secure price competitiveness in the global market.
Doosan Enerbility completed Jeju Tamna Offshore Wind Power, Korea’s first offshore wind farm, in 2017. In 2021, it signed a supply contract with Korea Electric Power Technology for 100MW scale Jeju Hallim Offshore Wind Power equipment, and is about to complete the supply of 18 units of 5.5MW-class offshore wind turbines.
Sohn Seung-woo, Head of Power Service BG at Doosan Enerbility, said, "This Korea-type ultra-large offshore wind turbine will be an opportunity to secure competitiveness in terms of quality, cost, and delivery." He added, "We will strengthen the energy security foundation in the domestic wind power market where foreign wind turbines are aggressively entering, and take the lead in revitalizing the domestic wind power ecosystem."
