KT Skylife to Launch 'AI Sports' Project with Reduced Production Costs... Soccer Tournament Broadcast

The Homeless World Cup is an international soccer tournament officially sponsored by FIFA that supports neighbors living in housing blind spots by boosting their independence and improving negative perceptions to create sustainable life changes.

In July, Skylife invested 6.8 billion KRW to acquire 170,000 shares in 'Hogak,' which holds the exclusive domestic sales rights for AI broadcasting solutions, marking its entry into the 'AI Sports' business. AI Sports is a solution where AI unmanned cameras track players' movements and automatically film the game. It provides video at a lower cost compared to professional sports games that require a large amount of equipment and personnel. The target customers are approximately 5 million amateur athletes, their families, and recreational sports players belonging to clubs who want to review their game footage.

Hogak was selected as the main broadcaster for the Seoul 2024 Homeless World Cup. The Homeless World Cup, which began in 2003, will hold its 19th edition for the first time in Asia from the 21st to the 28th at Hanyang University. This year’s Homeless World Cup features 59 teams from 45 countries, with about 480 players participating in a total of approximately 390 matches, all of which will be broadcast for free on the Hogak application.

Viewers can watch by downloading the Hogak app or signing up on the Hogak website. At the same time, AI-filmed broadcast footage will be provided to 60 million subscribers worldwide through the ‘FIFA+’ app, and major matches including those of the Korean national team can be viewed on Naver Sports.

Additionally, Skylife will offer free access to the movie , starring Park Seo-joon and IU, which covers the story of the Homeless World Cup, until the 28th. A dedicated section introducing information about the Homeless World Cup and offering major match VODs in 4K UHD quality for free viewing will also be opened.

Furthermore, to raise national interest in the Homeless World Cup, since the 9th, introduction videos of the Homeless World Cup have been broadcast on skyGuide (channel 505) and Sky Regional Broadcasting (channel 125). To enhance customer viewing convenience, AI camera-filmed game footage will also be scheduled on the subsidiary Skylife TV’s SkyUHD channel and HCN’s regional channels.

Choi Young-beom, CEO of KT Skylife, said, "We will collaborate with Hogak to accumulate AI broadcasting experience across various tournaments and expand into multiple sports disciplines, establishing AI Sports as a successful new business model."
