Super typhoon 'Yagi' has caused continuous heavy rain in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, resulting in nearly 300 deaths and missing persons. The water level of the Red River flowing through Hanoi has risen to the highest level in 20 years. Residents have evacuated due to flooding damage in various parts of Hanoi.
According to major foreign media on the 11th (local time), the Vietnamese government has tentatively reported that at least 155 people have died and 141 are missing since typhoon Yagi made landfall in Vietnam on the 7th.
According to Hanoi city authorities, about 7.5 to 27.3 mm of rain fell in Hanoi in the morning alone on that day. In some areas, heavy rain of about 120 mm poured down.
The water level of the Red River flowing through Hanoi reached 11.1 meters around noon that day, exceeding the level 2 flood warning threshold of 10.5 meters. The city authorities issued a level 2 warning.
A meteorological official told local media, "The flood level of the Red River exceeded 11 meters in 2004, and after 20 years, such an event is happening again."
