Typhoon 'Yagi' Damage in Northern Thailand... Over 10 Dead or Missing

Thousands of Houses Flooded... Many Residents Isolated

In northern Thailand, heavy rains caused by Super Typhoon 'Yagi' have resulted in about 10 people dead or missing.

According to AFP and local media Bangkok Post on the 11th, disaster authorities reported that floods and landslides occurred in northern areas including Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces, resulting in at least 4 deaths and 5 missing persons.


In the Mae Ai area of Chiang Mai province, two landslides occurred, causing 3 deaths, 1 injury, and 4 missing persons.


In the Mae Phruang area of Chiang Mai province, a landslide buried houses, resulting in 1 death, 2 serious injuries, and 1 missing person.


Sudden floods submerged thousands of houses, and many residents were reported isolated in various locations.


At a temple in the Mae Sai area, 38 monks and worshippers were trapped, and nearby residents climbed onto roofs waiting for rescue.


Main roads were blocked, electricity was cut off, and the border checkpoint connecting Mae Sai and Tachilek, Myanmar, was closed.


Typhoon Yagi struck Vietnam on the 7th after passing through the Philippines and China. In Vietnam, the death toll and missing persons due to Yagi reached about 200.


Disaster authorities said, "Water levels of major rivers are rising, and we are closely monitoring the situation," adding, "More rain may fall until the 17th," expressing concerns about additional damage.
