Korea Tourism Organization Hosts Australian K-Tourism Roadshow 'Discover Korea 2024'

The number of Australian tourists visiting Korea is rapidly increasing. While the number of Australian tourists recorded about 170,000 in 2019, it rose to approximately 198,000 last year, and by July this year, it reached 130,000, a 28% increase compared to the same period last year, with expectations to surpass 200,000 by the end of the year.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization will hold the first-ever 'K-Tourism Roadshow' at Sydney Opera House and Brisbane Westin Hotel, major cities in Australia. A total of about 210 people, including 30 Korean travel industry professionals and 180 local stakeholders, will attend, and more than 300 business consultations are expected to be concluded through this roadshow.

Following the Travel Mart, the K-Tourism Showcase will be hosted by prominent local Hallyu influencer Andy Tru, introducing various Korea travel themes such as Hallyu, educational travel, and regional tourism. Renowned local Korean chef Heather Jung will present a specially developed Korean fusion course and a Hallasan cocktail symbolizing Jeju Island.

Additionally, the organization will present plaques of appreciation to travel agencies that have launched luxury tourism products to attract high-value Australian tourists, including TripAdil, the largest Australian travel agency sending tourists to Korea, as well as Inspiring Vacations, Vernic Tours, and MW Tours.

Kim Hyung-jun, head of the Korea Tourism Organization’s Sydney office, stated, "This year, air seats between Australia and Korea have increased by 41% compared to pre-pandemic levels, and the visiting age group is shifting from the previous 50s and 60s to the 20s and 30s," adding, "We will do our best to establish Korea as Asia’s representative tourist destination in Australia."
