At the '2024 Good Brain Conference' hosted by Asia Economy on the 11th at The Plaza Hotel in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, Kang Sung-ji, CEO of Welt, stated, "With the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), a foundation is being established to collect and rapidly analyze data from more patients at once and to treat more diseases."

'SleepQ,' developed by Welt as a treatment for insomnia, is the second digital therapeutic device (DTx) in Korea to receive approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Prescriptions for patients began in June, and it is currently undergoing procedures for health insurance reimbursement registration.

CEO Kang explained, "Typically, insomnia patients visit hospitals once every month or two to receive a doctor's prescription and explain what happened or what symptoms they experienced before coming to the hospital. However, if they use the DTx prescribed by the doctor regularly, it collects all information related to the patient such as sleep habits, daily life, exercise status, and food intake, and based on this, it can make medical diagnoses or predict symptoms to improve sleep disorders."

For example, through DTx, if the patient receives information like, "Based on today's lifestyle analysis, it is expected that you will have difficulty sleeping, so it is recommended to take one prescribed sleeping pill and go to bed an hour later," and follows this advice, it increases the participation rate in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia patients and leads to faster effects.

CEO Kang added, "While Welt was developing the DTx for insomnia treatment, AI technology also rapidly advanced. Beyond simply measuring steps and heart rate, if AI learns data from numerous patients, it becomes possible to analyze and predict symptoms that may appear in the near future in a short time. Therefore, as long as sufficient consent for providing patient information is obtained, necessary prescriptions can be delivered faster and timely."

At the event, CEO Kang also introduced a new app called 'MaraQ,' aimed at preventing drug addiction. He said, "Recently, substance use disorders and drug addiction have become social problems with increasing prevalence. We plan to provide correct information free of charge through the app so that people experiencing addiction symptoms or those who started drugs out of mere curiosity and need help can receive treatment based on anonymity."
