Billboard stated, "BTS broke through the ceiling that had blocked boy bands, K-pop, and Korean artists," and "They created a community inspired by the positive, loving, and connecting messages BTS delivers." It added, "No K-pop group has achieved the accomplishments BTS has in the 21st century," and "BTS formed a global community, expanded the K-pop genre, and paved the way for successful solo careers."
Billboard mentioned that BTS has topped the main singles chart 'Hot 100' and the main albums chart 'Billboard 200' six times each, describing them as "a global sensation achieving Beatles-level success." It also introduced songs like 'Dynamite,' which gave BTS their first 'Hot 100' No. 1, and 'Butter,' which held the 'Hot 100' No. 1 spot for 10 consecutive weeks, while noting their five Grammy Award nominations.
Billboard pointed to the special relationship between BTS and their fandom 'ARMY,' as well as the members' ability to handle various music genres as keys to their success. It explained, "The seven members underwent K-pop training methods that make them excel in every aspect of performance." Additionally, it cited their top-tier music videos and stages, as well as choreography that spans hip-hop and ballet, as major factors in their success.
Since last month, Billboard has been releasing a list of the 25 most important and influential pop stars in America in the 21st century, unveiling two names each week. Previously, Katy Perry ranked 25th, Ed Sheeran 24th, and Bad Bunny 23rd. Following them were One Direction at 22nd, Lil Wayne at 21st, and Bruno Mars at 20th.
