Operation of Customized Cultural Arts and Walking Tour Courses for Foreign Tourists Until November 3
Utilizing Myeongdong Art Breeze to Leap as a K-Culture Landmark
Seoul Jung-gu has stepped up to revitalize Myeongdong, a must-visit course for foreign tourists. Jung-gu introduced its cultural tourism attractions and popular restaurants in sync with the 'Golden: The Moments' exhibition of BTS member Jungkook, held at the Moxy Building of Le Meridien Myeongdong until the 22nd of this month.
The aim is to introduce visitors to Myeongdong's hidden historical and cultural heritage, which is often remembered only as a shopping destination, and to use this opportunity to promote K-culture. At Myeongdong Art Breeze, a complex cultural center under Jung-gu Office, the 1st and 2nd floors of the building are opened as rest areas for visitors attending Jungkook's photo exhibition, while the 3rd floor is set up as a K-Culture Space where visitors can experience Korean tea and traditional culture.
Opened in November last year, Myeongdong Art Breeze is located in the back alley of Myeongdong, where the Chinese Embassy in Korea and Hanseong Elementary School are situated, and is close to the exhibition venue. During Jungkook's photo exhibition period, K-pop dance classes will be expanded and meditation healing programs will be introduced here. In addition, the Jung-gu area is popular among tourists with places like Myeongdong Beauty Play, a beauty complex cultural space, B The B in Dongdaemun Design Plaza, and Highker Ground near Cheonggyecheon.
Jung-gu also operates a walking tour program. This is a one-hour walking course with a guide, offering an opportunity to learn about Myeongdong's past and present. The Myeongdong course starts from Myeongdong Art Breeze and follows the wall of the Chinese Embassy, visiting the Myeongdong UNESCO Hall, Myeongdong Art Theater, and Myeongdong Cathedral in sequence, where visitors can hear various stories related to Myeongdong's history from the guide. The course concludes with a K-beauty experience at Beauty Play, a K-beauty experience and promotion center.
Additionally, nearby hotspots in Jung-gu include Pildong Korean House, Sungnyemun Gate, and Seoul 7017. These places attracted international attention as locations where BTS filmed and visited. Other courses that can be introduced include Myeongdong and the opposite department stores, Namdaemun Market with a 600-year tradition, Sungnyemun Gate, the filming site of Global Citizen 2021, Jungnidan-gil, and Yakhyeon Cathedral. The promotional materials also introduce famous restaurants in Jung-gu visited by BTS members.
Kim Gil-seong, the district mayor, said, “Along with the charm of Myeongdong, which has led the trends of the times, I hope that many attractions in Jung-gu will be widely known through the special tourism courses prepared this time.”
Meanwhile, Myeongdong has been selected as the 2nd phase free display zone for outdoor advertisements and is making a comeback under the new brand 'Myeongdong Square.' Smart poles will be installed in Myeongdong next month.
