67% More Computing Units and 28% More Memory Compared to Previous Model
Sony has announced the performance-enhanced version of the 'PlayStation 5' (PS5), the 'PS5 Pro.'
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) revealed the appearance, actual performance, and pricing information of the 'PS5 Pro' during an online technical presentation on the 10th (local time).
Mark Cerny, the lead architect, highlighted the core features of the 'PS5 Pro' as ▲ a larger Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) ▲ advanced ray tracing (realistic lighting effects) ▲ AI (artificial intelligence)-based upscaling (resolution enhancement) technology.
The GPU of the PS5 Pro has 67% more compute units and 28% more memory compared to the previous PS5, resulting in rendering speeds up to 45% faster.
The PS5 Pro will be released only as a digital edition for downloading games. To use Blu-ray discs, a separately sold drive must be purchased.
The announced domestic release date for the PS5 Pro is November 7, with a price set at 1,118,000 KRW. Based on overseas prices, it is $699.99 in North America and ?119,980 in Japan.
Compared to the PS5's launch prices in 2020?498,000 KRW for the digital edition and 628,000 KRW for the standard edition with a disc?the price has roughly doubled in four years.
Sony Interactive Entertainment Korea (SIEK) will begin pre-orders for the 'PS5 Pro' through official retailers starting on the 26th of this month.
