Province Announces Site for Namyangju Baekbong District Establishment
Namyangju City "Full Effort on Feasibility Study and Establishment Approval Procedures"
Namyangju City's Baekbong District was confirmed on the 11th as the site for the establishment of the Northeast Gyeonggi Public Medical Center. Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju and National Assembly member Choi Min-hee expressed their unanimous welcome and took a commemorative photo. Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province has succeeded in attracting a public medical center for the northeastern region of Gyeonggi.
On the 11th, Namyangju City announced that Gyeonggi Province had designated Baekbong District in Namyangju as the site for the northeastern Gyeonggi public medical center.
This comes seven months after Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province announced plans in February to establish an innovative public medical center in the northeastern Gyeonggi area.
In the competition to attract the public medical center, seven cities and counties including Namyangju (Namyangju City, Uijeongbu City, Yangju City, Dongducheon City, Yeoncheon County, Yangpyeong County, Gapyeong County) participated. The province received proposals from these municipalities and conducted a first preliminary evaluation, followed by a second evaluation consisting of quantitative assessment (50%) and qualitative assessment (50%), ultimately selecting Baekbong District in Namyangju City.
The city had been actively engaged in attraction efforts through a task force team led by the deputy mayor. A public-private-government consultative body was formed, including local politicians such as members of the National Assembly and community residents, to carry out a city-wide signature campaign, which garnered participation from over 210,000 citizens. Additionally, policy discussion forums with invited experts were held.
In particular, Mayor Joo visited Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Provincial Council to submit the candidate site proposal and citizen signatures, and made extensive efforts to emphasize the necessity of establishing the public medical center in Namyangju to Governor Kim and others.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “I sincerely thank the public-private-government consultative body for their passionate efforts and Gyeonggi Province for the fair evaluation and review,” adding, “The success in attracting the public medical center is the fruit of the wishes and efforts of 740,000 Namyangju citizens.”
He continued, “This is just the beginning,” emphasizing, “We will actively collaborate with Gyeonggi Province to do our best to pass the preliminary feasibility study and establishment approval procedures by the central government.”
The city plans to focus on establishing practical response strategies and building cooperative systems to ensure smooth progress of upcoming administrative procedures, and will work with Gyeonggi Province to prepare support plans for the construction and sustainable operation of the public medical center.
Meanwhile, the province is expected to promptly start a feasibility study for establishing the northeastern Gyeonggi public medical center to prepare for the preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
