Phoenix wings soaring to the sky... Mysterious clouds captured in China

Colorful cloud shapes, resembling a red phoenix
Classified into high, middle, and low clouds according to cloud height

A photo of dancing clouds taken by a Chinese woman during her morning jog has become a hot topic online. The cloud formation resembles the Red Phoenix, an imaginary creature from Chinese mythology and legends. On the 11th, Chinese media such as Jimu News reported that a photo taken by Mingmo, a woman in her 40s from Yangxin County, Huangshi City, Hubei Province, China, is gaining popularity among Chinese netizens. Mingmo witnessed a mysterious scene in the sky above a hill around 6 a.m. local time on the 9th while jogging as usual. The colorful clouds looked like a phoenix soaring into the sky and dancing.

In an interview with Jimu News, Ming said, "As soon as I saw the clouds, I took a photo with my phone and shared it with my friends," adding, "The clouds disappeared after about 10 minutes." Wang Chaoran, a senior researcher at the Huangshi Meteorological Bureau who analyzed the cloud photo, explained, "These clouds are cirrus clouds, also known as feather clouds."

Meanwhile, clouds are classified by altitude into high-level clouds, mid-level clouds, and low-level clouds, with vertically developed cumulonimbus and cumulus clouds. High-level clouds include cirrostratus, cirrus, and cirrocumulus. Cirrostratus refers to small, wool-like cloud clusters, while cirrus clouds are composed of ice crystals that appear thin and elongated. Thin, layered clouds appearing in groups are called cirrostratus clouds.

Mid-level clouds include altostratus, which are thin, dark, layered clouds, and altocumulus, which resemble flocks of sheep. Low-level clouds are represented by stratus clouds, which often form at the foot of mountains. When climbing to the summit, one can stand above the clouds and see much of the sky. In addition, there are thicker vertically developed clouds such as stratocumulus and nimbostratus, which are dark gray clouds that bring snow and rain.
