Threatened Female Employees and Customers with a Blunt Weapon

A man in his 50s was arrested for assaulting a hair salon employee with a blunt weapon and causing a disturbance at the salon because she refused to meet him.

On the 10th, the Ulsan Nambu Police Station detained Mr. A on charges of aggravated assault and is currently investigating him. Mr. A is accused of entering a hair salon in Nam-gu, Ulsan, at 6:07 p.m. on the 7th, wielding a blunt weapon and hitting a female hairdresser on the head, causing injury.

Mr. A, a former customer of the salon, reportedly became intoxicated and visited the salon swinging the blunt weapon after being rejected when he recently asked the hairdresser to drink together, believing she was ignoring him.

Mr. A also swung the blunt weapon multiple times at other female employees and customers who tried to stop him. When the victims fled to a nearby parking lot, he followed and continued to threaten them for about 10 minutes. He also assaulted nearby store owners who witnessed the scene by throwing metal chairs and swinging the blunt weapon.

Mr. A confronted police officers who arrived after the report for about five minutes before voluntarily dropping the weapon and being arrested. It is reported that five people were taken to the hospital for treatment due to Mr. A’s rampage with the blunt weapon.

Videos released by SBS show Mr. A entering the salon with the blunt weapon and striking the hairdresser’s head. According to witnesses, "(Mr. A) kept saying, 'I’m going to jail today,' while continuously talking on the phone with a friend and swinging the weapon." In the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "I committed the crime impulsively because I felt the victim was ignoring me."

Netizens who saw the story responded with comments such as "Pathetic," "Isn’t this a planned crime rather than impulsive?" and "It’s frustrating. The punishment should be severe. Considering the victim’s position, how terrifying it must have been."

Meanwhile, the police plan to formally charge Mr. A with aggravated assault and other offenses and send him to prosecution.
