"Lee Jae-myung and the direction of the National Support Fund are the same, only differing in method"
"Yoon Seok-yeol government divides history... Additional Independence Memorial Hall planned in Gyeonggi-do"
"President must actively intervene to resolve emergency room medical crisis"
"Recent actions aimed not at presidency but at regime change to Democratic Party"
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon expressed his opinion that it would be better to provide a nationwide support fund of 250,000 won to the vulnerable 70-80% excluding the top 20-30%. Regarding concerns that this stance might put him at odds with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim dismissed them by saying that Lee also mentioned he could accept a differentiated support plan if the Yoon Seok-yeol administration is struggling.
He also added that the Yoon Seok-ol government is currently attempting to erase history and that Gyeonggi Province plans to push for the construction of an additional Independence Hall. Furthermore, he emphasized that the president should actively intervene to resolve the ongoing emergency room medical crisis as a matter of responsibility, and regarding recent reports on his presidential ambitions, he stressed that his actions are aimed at a regime change to the Democratic Party.
In an interview with MBC’s ‘Kim Jong-bae’s Focus’ on the 11th, Governor Kim said about the nationwide 250,000 won payment, "If the support fund is given not to the entire population but to the middle and lower classes excluding the top 20% or 30%, these groups have a much higher propensity to consume, so it will stimulate consumption more," adding, "It will also help revive the economy."
Regarding his confrontation with Governor Lee Jae-myung, he said, "Leader Lee also mentioned at the Supreme Council meeting that if the government is struggling, he could accept a differentiated support plan, suggesting that it is better than providing no support at all," and added, "He also said in meetings with the president and the ruling party leader that this could be realistically done within an appropriate range. Therefore, I believe this is a difference in method under the same direction."
When asked about the additional construction of an Independence Hall in Gyeonggi Province, Kim explained, "The Yoon Seok-yeol government is currently erasing history. There is only one Independence Hall in Cheonan, which mainly focuses on armed resistance. Therefore, we are considering building an Independence Hall in the metropolitan area with good accessibility that honors those who contributed to patriotism through various means such as arts, media, and education, not just armed resistance."
He particularly stated, "Seeing the divided Liberation Day events and New Right figures, I wonder if the president is truly qualified to uphold the constitution," and added, "That is why Gyeonggi Province is taking the initiative to protect and properly establish history. Chairman Lee Jong-chan and the Liberation Association have expressed enthusiastic support for this."
Regarding the recent emergency room medical crisis, Governor Kim criticized, "The medical crisis must be resolved by the central government. The current order of holding a ruling-opposition parliamentary council is seriously wrong."
He continued, "From the beginning, this should not be pushed through with an authoritarian or democratic mindset alone; various opinions should be heard and social consensus should be induced. Doing this now is out of order," and insisted, "The president must take responsibility and resolve this."
On his future presidential ambitions, he said, "I still have two years left in my term, and now is not the time to talk about that," adding, "There are many pressing issues in Gyeonggi Province, and I am not interested in presidential ambitions."
He further stated, "If I were to pursue it, it would be as part of the Democratic Party’s regime change efforts," and added, "If there is a role I can play in helping the Democratic Party achieve a competent regime change, I should do it. For now, as governor, I am focusing on the pressing issues in Gyeonggi Province and fulfilling the pledges I made."
Finally, Governor Kim emphasized, "The current government’s fiscal policy is seriously flawed," and said, "This is not the time for sound or austerity fiscal policies but a time to expand fiscal spending so that finance can play its role."
