Hanwha Defense Group Targets Australian Market with New Weapons

Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Systems Participate in Australia Exhibition
Showcasing Modular Charges, Unmanned Vehicles Targeting Overseas Markets

Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Systems are targeting the Australian market. They will participate in ‘Land Forces 2024’ held in Melbourne, Australia, setting up an integrated exhibition hall of about 200 pyeong (approximately 660 square meters) to showcase the wheeled armored vehicle ‘Tigon,’ the multiple launch rocket system ‘Cheonmu,’ the unmanned reconnaissance vehicle (UCV-L), modular charges (MCS), the Korean launch vehicle ‘Nuriho,’ and C4I tactical communication solutions.

On the 11th, Hanwha Systems will introduce the ‘C4I tactical communication solution,’ a hyper-connected, multi-layered communication network based on low-earth orbit satellite communication and 5G. C4I stands for Command, Control, Communication, Computer, and Intelligence.

Hanwha Systems will demonstrate ‘real-time video transmission’ between drones, vehicles, and the exhibition site at the Redback production plant in Geelong, about 70 km from the Melbourne exhibition center. A mobile 5G base station mounted on a moving vehicle receives video footage captured by drones and then transmits the footage in real time to the exhibition site via low-earth orbit satellite communication. This showcases smooth operational capability regardless of ground communication network disruptions during the exhibition.

Hanwha Aerospace, responsible for system integration, will exhibit the Korean launch vehicle ‘Nuriho.’ To strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the space sector, they plan to meet with local institutions and companies during the exhibition period to discuss future business collaborations.

Hanwha Aerospace will display the actual wheeled armored vehicle ‘Tigon,’ developed in-house, at this exhibition. It can be equipped with various armaments and is capable of mobility on both land and water, allowing optimization according to operational purposes. The actual multiple launch rocket system Cheonmu will also be exhibited. Displayed alongside three types of guided missiles, Cheonmu can precisely strike targets with multiple guided missiles.

The unmanned reconnaissance vehicle, capable of AI-based remote and autonomous driving to perform various missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, guard, and engagement in hazardous areas, and the modular charge system (MCS), which modularizes cylindrical charges that push warheads and can load an appropriate amount of propellant according to the target range, will also be introduced.

A Hanwha Aerospace official said, “Based on the trust built through exports of the K9 and Redback, we will strengthen defense and space cooperation between the two countries as a forward base to target the Five Eyes market.”
