"Spending 100 Million Won a Year but Still Broke on the Surface"... Beauty YouTuber Reflects on Luxury Addiction

YouTuber Company Employee A Declares Stop to Luxury Shopping, Sparks Attention
Department Store VIP with Annual Spending Over 100 Million Won
"When I Went to the Store, Everything Was Already Bought... Due to Desire to Show Off"

Beauty YouTuber 'HoesawonA' (real name Choi Seohee), who has 1.28 million subscribers, has sparked attention by declaring that she will "stop luxury shopping." On the 11th, an online community spread the content of a video titled '100 million won a year. This is not right. I will speak honestly,' which HoesawonA posted on the 8th. Previously, HoesawonA revealed that she was seriously addicted to luxury shopping to the extent that she left a 15 million won Hermes bag untouched in its packaging. She said, "I posted content reflecting on my actions and received a lot of support. Riding on that encouragement, I am reflecting on my overspending."

HoesawonA stated that she has been a VIP customer at Hyundai Department Store since 2022 and currently holds the Jasmine tier, which requires an annual spending of over 100 million won. She said she created content related to being a department store VIP earlier this year but did not release it. Regarding the reason, she confessed, "The filming site was not enjoyable. Although I have been someone who could laugh heartily in front of the camera for 11 years since 2014, I was not happy inside. From then on, I felt like I was a 'glittering pauper'."

She continued, "When I went to Prada, I realized I had overspent so much that I already owned about half of what was in the store. If I posted this, our viewers, being kind, would say 'That's cool' or 'A self-made woman,' but I felt it would reinforce a frivolous lifestyle. So, I did not post that content."

She shared, "Becoming a VIP was all because of spending at Prada. The most regrettable thing was buying a 15 million won coat." Referring to a trunk show (a small fashion show held for VIP customers) she was invited to, she said, "When I went there, I somehow felt like I had to buy something, so I bought the coat. But I never wore it outside even once. When I tried to resell it, the depreciation was huge." She added that she has now stopped luxury consumption, saying, "Even if I get cut off from VIP status now, I don't feel much regret," and "I am grateful to myself for deciding to stop overspending."

Regarding why she enjoyed luxury shopping, she said, "Honestly, it was for showing off," and added, "I spent money when I was bored and lonely. My work involved trying various cosmetics and concluding, 'I've tried up to this point, and this is it.' I think I had a 'I've tried everything' syndrome." She continued, "Viewers trusted my 'my own purchase' receipt reviews, so I even had a title like 'a woman who spent this much on something.' But I came to think that living like this wouldn't be good for myself."

She concluded, "I will live a consumption life where I don't have moments of harsh reality checks. I think living like this is more right and healthy. I would appreciate your support as I grow up and live this way."
