Founding General Meeting at the National Assembly Members' Office Building on the 11th
"Seizing the 2-Year Golden Time for Hegemonic Competition"
The ruling and opposition parties in the National Assembly have united in support of the secondary battery industry.
On the morning of the 11th, the inaugural general meeting of the 22nd National Assembly's 'Secondary Battery Forum' was held at the 2nd Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, co-hosted by Park Seong-min of the People Power Party and Shin Young-dae of the Democratic Party of Korea. This forum was launched with the purpose of proposing legislation and policies at the National Assembly level to secure global leadership in the secondary battery industry.
The forum included 15 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties, secondary battery cell manufacturers such as LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK On, material, parts, and equipment companies including POSCO Holdings, POSCO Future M, and Lotte Chemical, as well as remanufacturing and recycling companies like Sungil Hightech, covering the entire industry. It is expected that policy support reflecting the voices from the industry field will be possible.

Lawmaker Park Seong-min stated, "For the first time at the National Assembly level, the ruling and opposition parties have come together to form a research group supporting the secondary battery industry," adding, "We will actively seek ways to foster the industry for sustainable growth." Lawmaker Shin Young-dae also said, "The Secondary Battery Forum will go beyond a simple research group to solve practical issues through legislative and policy proposals."
On this day, the forum finalized its activity plans aiming to strengthen the entire lifecycle competitiveness of the secondary battery industry, including recycling of used batteries, research and development (R&D) of next-generation secondary batteries, and fostering energy storage systems (ESS). It also plans to discuss focused support measures for the national advanced strategic industry specialized complex in the secondary battery sector and the stabilization of the core mineral supply chain.
The industry welcomed the establishment of the National Assembly Secondary Battery Forum. The secondary battery industry stated, "The next 2 to 3 years are the golden time when the outcome of the global secondary battery hegemony competition will be decided," and evaluated that the launch of the National Assembly forum at a time when the global secondary battery market competition is intensifying and national-level focused support is urgently needed is of great significance.
Speaker Woo Won-shik, in his congratulatory remarks, said, "I hope the Secondary Battery Forum will greatly contribute to industrial innovation and development," emphasizing that the National Assembly will listen to the voices of the secondary battery industry and actively support industrial development.
At this inaugural general meeting, lawmakers Park Seong-min and Shin Young-dae were elected as co-chairs, and lawmaker Lee Sang-hwi of the People Power Party was appointed as the research director.
